Oushida hot melt adhesive machine | Why is it not recommended that you mix hot melt adhesive?
Company Profile
Suzhou Oushida Hot Melt Adhesive Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development, production, sales and technical consulting of hot melt adhesive intelligent spraying equipment.
Why is it not recommended that you mix hot melt adhesive?
How it works
Each adhesive has specific properties. Even if hot melt adhesives look the same, it doesn't mean they have the same chemical structure.
Two major reasons why mixing is not recommended
1. Causes clogging of hoses and glue guns
Suppose that a hot melt adhesive with a use temperature of 150-170°C is replaced with a hot melt adhesive used at 130-150°C. What will happen if the new hot melt adhesive is mixed with the old adhesive in the glue tank?
01. First, because the temperature in the melting tank is too high, the newly added hot melt adhesive will carbonize.
02. Secondly, when the hot melt adhesive is heated above its use temperature, the viscosity will decrease - the glue will become very thin. The thin hot melt adhesive will flow out faster because it has better fluidity, while the thicker old glue will remain in the melting tank and carbonize.
Carbonized hot melt adhesive is not immediately noticeable, but once it begins to form, it will adhere to any location in the glue spraying system, causing serious consequences. Hot melt adhesive hoses and glue guns may become blocked.
2. Poor bonding
If the temperature is set incorrectly and the viscosity is too high, the hot melt adhesive will be too thick and too little hot melt adhesive will be sprayed. On the contrary, if the viscosity is too low, it will be too thin, so too much hot melt adhesive will be sprayed. And due to different open times, the hot melt adhesive will solidify for too long or too short a time, which may also lead to poor bonding.
Therefore, do not mix different hot melt adhesives!
In simple terms
Mix two or more different hot melt adhesives
↓
Carbonization, clogging (difficult to clean)
↓
Increase downtime (affect production)
↓
In severe cases, the glue gun and hot melt hose need to be replaced
↓
Increase production costs
