As the temperature gradually drops in winter, some customers have encountered problems such as poor adhesion, brittle hot melt adhesive, and debonding when using hot melt adhesive in production. What is the reason?

Hot melt adhesive, as the name implies, is sensitive to "heat", that is, to the ambient temperature. In winter, due to the cold weather, the hot melt adhesive bonding process is affected by the cold, resulting in rapid solidification and hardening. Some glue manufacturers will adjust the high and low temperature resistance of the glue according to the season when producing glue. Please pay attention to consult the glue manufacturer when using glue.

What is the difference between hot melt adhesive in winter and summer and autumn?

To be precise, there are some differences in the design of certain properties of glue in winter and summer. For example, the curing time (also known as the open time) of hot melt adhesive is an important factor affecting the viscosity of hot melt adhesive. Since factory operations are basically carried out at room temperature, the room temperature in winter and summer is very different, so the curing time requirements for hot melt adhesive are different at this time. For the same glue, the curing time should be shortened in summer and the open time should be extended in winter.

What precautions should be taken when using a hot melt adhesive machine in winter?

1. The hot melt adhesive is heated for too short a time during bonding, resulting in the hot melt adhesive temperature failing to meet the requirements. When using hot melt adhesive in winter, please increase the operating temperature of the hot melt adhesive tank of the machine by 10~20℃. Frequently check whether there is a difference between the actual temperature in the adhesive tank and the surface temperature to prevent the temperature control system of the machine from malfunctioning in winter and the instrument temperature from being inconsistent with the actual temperature.
   

2.  The temperature of the hot melt adhesive is too low. If the temperature of the bonded material is lower than 15 degrees, it is recommended that customers who have the conditions preheat the bonded material before packaging. If necessary, add auxiliary heating facilities such as hair dryers, heating lamps, etc. to increase their temperature to achieve a good bonding effect and ensure the quality of packaging.

3. Storage temperature is above 15℃. The temperature of the warehouse storing hot melt adhesive should also be kept above 15 degrees to shorten the melting time of hot melt adhesive.

4. The temperature during work or at the construction site is too low. Please pay attention to the insulation of the production workshop, and avoid placing the machine using hot melt adhesive in places where air circulates quickly, such as doorways, vents, etc.

5.  The temperature of the substrate is too low. Please pay attention to the insulation of the bonded material. If the material stored in a low temperature environment is directly used for packaging, the temperature of the glue will drop too quickly, which will have an adverse effect on the packaging effect, and in severe cases, it will cause the glue to debond.
