Lockdown around the world because of coronavirus COVID-19 has got many of us opting for many DIY activities. Although the DIY projects are mostly a coping mechanism for those who are stuck at home but there are some people who actually like trying DIY activities. People who are familiar with DIY projects know that there is one important thing that can come in handy and that is glue. Either it is cold or hot glue, you need to have proper gluing equipment otherwise your DIY projects won’t be finished.

Considering there are so many things that can be crafted and based on their different requirements, there are different kinds of glue adhesives. One has to choose the right kind of glue for his/her project to make it perfect. Most commonly, we use hot and cold glue as an adhesive. There is this common notion that cold glue is cheaper than the hot glue, so here we are going to dig into it to see whether it is true or not.

The cost difference between cold and hot glue?

If we think about the cost of cold and hot glue, it is simple that cold glue is cheaper than the hot glue. Usually, cold glues are water-based, they can be used on normal temperatures. You just buy them, and they are ready to use on any material including paper cardboard, wood, glass, and materials like that. On the other hand, hot glues are expensive. Usually, there are polymer rods that need to meltdown and cool off when using. These polymer rods are made through a process that makes them a little expensive than the cold glues. For any hot types of glues, you will require a glue gun. Otherwise, you can’t use them.

A difference between glue machine/equipment for hot and cold glue application

You don’t really need to use the glue machines to apply the cold glues as they come in packaging that is handy enough to use instantly. But for precision and clean application, you can have a glue machine. This would be more professional for those who like to craft things on a much professional level. As for the hot glue application, you must have a glue machine. Otherwise, you can’t do anything. This glue machine, commonly known as glue gun is an indispensable tool. The glue machine price could also depend on the quality of the machine as well. So, if you buy a good quality glue machine it will be costly, but it will be easy to use. Adding the price of polymer glue rods and glue machine price, the hot glue option would be costly.

Bottom line: Different projects require different glues. There is a variety of glues available in the market that can be used on different materials. One needs to pick the right glue for his/her project. At the end of the day, it is not about the cost but the need to make quality DIY crafts even if it includes a higher glue machine price.
